This policy explains what personal data Platform Signals (platformsignals.dev) collects, why, and what rights you have over it. Platform Signals is an independent personal blog operated by Sowmya Shree, based in the United Kingdom, and is the "data controller" for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Because this site has readers outside the UK, this policy is also written to be consistent with other applicable data protection laws, including the EU GDPR and US state privacy laws.
What data is collected
- Blog comments. If you leave a comment on a post, the name and comment text you submit are stored and displayed publicly alongside the post. Only submit information you are comfortable making public.
- Standard server logs. Like most websites, the hosting infrastructure automatically logs basic technical information for security and reliability purposes — for example IP address, browser/user agent, and pages requested. These logs are not used to build advertising profiles.
- Theme preference. Your light/dark mode choice is
stored locally in your browser via
localStorage. This value never leaves your device and is not accessible to this site's operator. - Search. On-site search is powered by Pagefind, which runs entirely in your browser against a static index. Your search queries are not transmitted to or stored on any server.
Platform Signals does not currently use tracking or advertising cookies, third-party analytics scripts, or ad networks. If that changes in the future, this policy will be updated first and, where required, a cookie consent notice will be added.
Why this data is processed
Comment data is processed on the basis of your consent, given by voluntarily submitting the comment form, so the comment can be published and moderated. Technical server logs are processed under legitimate interest, to keep the site secure, functioning, and free of abuse.
Data retention
Comments are retained for as long as the related post remains published, unless you request removal sooner. Server logs are retained only as long as necessary for security and troubleshooting purposes, per the hosting provider's standard retention window.
Sharing of data
Personal data is not sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Data may be disclosed to hosting or infrastructure providers strictly as needed to operate the site, or where required by law.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR (and equivalent international laws), you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to request a copy of your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights — including asking for a comment to be removed — contact the site owner via LinkedIn . If you are unsatisfied with the response, UK residents may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) .
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children, and personal data is not knowingly collected from anyone under the age of 13.
